Lasagna
Homemade lasagna is high on everyone's list!
Equipment
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup red onion chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 lb Italian sausage crumbled
- 28 oz can tomatoes crushed or petite diced
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp Dried oregano
- 1 tsp Dried basil
- 1 cup full-bodied red wine
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp sugar
- lasagna noodles cooked according to package instructions
- 32 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
- 4 cups mozzarella cheese grated
Instructions
- In a Dutch oven or large sauce pan, heat the olive oil on medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes.
- Add the garlic and sauté 1 minute.
- Add the Italian sausage and sauté just until it is no longer pink.
- Add tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, red wine, tomato paste, and sugar.
- Stir and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Cook lasagna noodles and drain
- Place a layer of noodles in an oiled baking dish.
- Add half of the ricotta cheese.
- Cover with the tomato and sausage sauce.
- Add another layer of noodles, the other half of the ricotta, and sauce.
- Place another layer of noodles on top and pour over any left over sauce.
- Top with the mozzarella cheese.
- Place foil over the baking dish and bake at 375° for 30 to 45 minutes
- Remove from oven, keep covered, and let sit for 15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil, parmasan cheese, crushed red pepper flakes. (optional)
- Serve.
