lasagna noodles
cooked according to package instructions

whole milk ricotta cheese

mozzarella cheese
grated
Instructions
In a Dutch oven or large sauce pan, heat the olive oil on medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes.
Add the garlic and sauté 1 minute.
Add the Italian sausage and sauté just until it is no longer pink.
Add tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, red wine, tomato paste, and sugar.
Stir and bring to a simmer.
Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
Cook lasagna noodles and drain
Place a layer of noodles in an oiled baking dish.
Add half of the ricotta cheese.
Cover with the tomato and sausage sauce.
Add another layer of noodles, the other half of the ricotta, and sauce.
Place another layer of noodles on top and pour over any left over sauce.
Top with the mozzarella cheese.
Place foil over the baking dish and bake at 375° for 30 to 45 minutes
Remove from oven, keep covered, and let sit for 15 minutes.
Garnish with fresh basil, parmasan cheese, crushed red pepper flakes. (optional)
