Maple Leaf Cookies
Maple Leaf Cookies
This crisp cookie really holds it's shape, so it is perfect for using with cookie cutters. Decorate or serve plain, these also make great garnishes for pumpkin pie or pumpkin mousse. They are a big hit at fall themed parties.
Ingredients
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg yolk
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- fall-colored sugar sprinkles optional
Instructions
- With an electric mixer set on high, beat together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add maple syrup, vanilla, and egg yolk. Mix for 1 minute.
- Add flour and salt directly into the mixer. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Next Day
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Roll out dough on a well-floured work surface, using a rolling pin.
- Using cookie cutters, cut the dough into shapes.
- Place on a well-oiled cookie sheet.
- Add sugar sprinkles.
- Bake 10-12 minutes.
- Cool on a cooking rack.
Notes
I use a tooth pick to trace the veins and create a leaf-like look.
Fall sugar sprinkles are fun!
